1. Acceptance of these terms
By using this website, sending a message through the contact form, calling the gallery counter or confirming an order with any of our desks, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website and do not place work with us.
If you are acting for a company or another organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms on its behalf. Where you act for a client as an agent, you are responsible for passing these terms to that client and for making sure the client understands the specifications and the delivery arrangements.
These terms apply together with any written quotation and any plan set we issue for a specific order. If a signed quotation says something different from these terms, the signed quotation takes priority for that order. In all other respects these terms stand as the basis of the relationship.
2. Our services
Light Media Limited runs a lighting trade made up of six desks: pendant batch bays, bulb lot runs, showroom fit-out desks, dimming check windows, wiring kit reviews and install quote sittings. Each desk is described on the services page, and the description there forms part of these terms.
Our work is a trade service. We inspect, group, plan, quote and arrange supply of lighting goods. We are not the manufacturer of every item that passes through the loft, and we do not carry out electrical installation ourselves except where a separate written arrangement says otherwise. Installation is normally carried out by a licensed contractor engaged by the client.
We may decline work that falls outside our competence, that would require an unlicensed activity, or that cannot be completed with honest documentation. In such a case we will explain the reason and, where possible, suggest a more suitable provider.
3. Use of the website
You may view and print pages from this website for your own business use. You may not copy substantial parts of the site into another service, remove notices of authorship, or present our written material as your own.
You agree not to attack the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, submit malicious code through a form, or use automated tools to overload it. We may suspend access where we reasonably believe a visitor is causing harm to the site or to other visitors.
The contact form prepares a message in your own mail program. It does not create an order, a booking or a binding contract. An enquiry becomes an order only when we confirm it in writing as described below.
4. Enquiries and quotations
A quotation is prepared after the relevant desk has reviewed the request. For a fit-out, that means the plan has been drawn, the socket map has been checked and the dimming zones have been marked. For a pendant or bulb order, it means the sequence and the lot grouping have been confirmed.
Quotations are itemised by room and by rail so that scope can be adjusted without losing the logic of the layout. A quotation is valid for thirty days from the date it is issued unless it states a different period. After that period the desk may reissue the figure to reflect current supply costs.
A quotation is not an offer that binds us until we confirm the order. Where a product is described with a tolerance, such as a colour temperature range or a finish variation, that tolerance forms part of what is being quoted and is not a defect.
5. Orders and confirmation
An order is confirmed when we issue a written confirmation that names the items, the quantities, the price, the delivery arrangement and the expected timing. A verbal instruction at the counter can be accepted, but it is confirmed in writing before work begins so that both sides have the same record.
Changes to a confirmed order must be requested in writing. We will tell you whether a change is possible, what it costs and how it affects the schedule. A change that requires new batch work or a redrawn plan may carry a desk fee, which will be stated before the change is accepted.
We may cancel an order if the requested goods become unavailable, if a specification cannot be met honestly, or if information needed to complete the work is not supplied within a reasonable period. If we cancel, we will refund any amount paid for the cancelled part of the order.
6. Specifications and samples
Pendant batches are checked against a reference card for the profile, finish and cord set. Bulb lots are grouped by base type and colour temperature. Where a batch differs from a sample in a way that is visible at normal viewing distance, the desk will tell you before release.
Screens and printed photographs do not show colour faithfully. A finish that looks warm on a screen may read cooler in a room, and a bulb that looks white in a photograph may sit warmer on a wall. We encourage a visit to the loft or a sample check before a large order is confirmed.
Natural variation in materials, coatings and glass is normal in the lighting trade. Small differences in shade thickness, canopy tone or bulb envelope are not treated as faults unless they fall outside the tolerance stated in the confirmation.
7. Dimming behaviour
Dimming depends on the whole circuit, not only on the lamp. The driver, the dimmer family, the wiring run and the load on a circuit all affect behaviour at low output. Our dimming check windows test each family at three bands and record what we see.
We will share those notes with you before release. Where a family shows a sharp cut-off or a flicker at the low end, we will recommend an alternative driver or dimmer where one is available. If you choose to keep the original specification, the note stays with the order record and the observed behaviour is not treated as a fault.
We cannot guarantee dimming behaviour in a room we have not inspected. If the dimmer on site differs from the one tested, or if the circuit carries an unexpected load, the behaviour may differ from our notes. In that case the desk will help diagnose the issue, and any replacement parts are supplied under a separate quote.
8. Delivery and risk
Delivery arrangements are stated in the order confirmation. Where we arrange delivery, risk passes to you when the goods are handed over at the delivery address and signed for. Where you arrange collection, risk passes when the goods leave the loft.
Please inspect a delivery before signing. If a carton is crushed, note the damage on the delivery document and tell the desk within two working days. A batch that arrives damaged will be replaced or repaired according to the condition of the goods and the availability of stock.
If delivery cannot be completed because access is blocked, because nobody is present or because the address is wrong, a further delivery charge may apply. We will tell you the charge before arranging a second attempt.
9. Title and payment
Title in goods passes to you when payment in full has been received and the goods have been delivered or collected. Until then the goods remain the property of Light Media Limited, and you agree to store them separately and clearly marked if they are held at your premises.
Payment terms are stated in the order confirmation. Unless agreed otherwise, a deposit is payable before batch work begins and the balance is payable before delivery. Amounts that remain unpaid after the due date may attract interest at a reasonable commercial rate, and we may suspend further work until the account is settled.
Prices are quoted in the currency stated on the quotation and do not include duties, taxes or installation unless the quotation says so. If a tax applies to your order, it will be shown as a separate line.
10. Returns and faults
If a product is faulty on arrival, tell the desk within seven days of delivery and keep the packaging. We will inspect the item, and where the fault is ours we will repair, replace or refund it. Where the fault is minor and can be corrected at the bench, we may offer a correction rather than a replacement.
A change of mind on a standard item may be accepted within fourteen days of delivery, provided the item is unused, in its original packaging and in a resaleable condition. A change of mind on a custom batch, a cut cord set or a mixed bulb lot cannot normally be accepted, because such goods cannot be returned to stock.
Return shipping is at your cost unless the return is due to our error. We will confirm the return address and the condition requirements before you send anything back.
11. Installation responsibilities
Electrical installation must be carried out by a licensed contractor in accordance with the law of the place of installation. We do not supervise that contractor unless a separate written arrangement is made. A plan set from our showroom fit-out desk is a layout document, not an electrical certificate.
You are responsible for checking that the ceiling structure can carry the pendants and that the circuit can carry the load. We are happy to review a plan and to flag an obvious concern, but the final responsibility for structural and electrical safety rests with the client and the licensed contractor.
If an installer reports that a wiring kit does not match the drawing, tell the desk before modifying the kit. In most cases the mismatch can be corrected at the bench, and a modification made on site may take the kit outside the specification we reviewed.
12. Intellectual property
The text, layout and imagery of this website belong to Light Media Limited or are used with permission. The plan sets, socket maps and written notes prepared by our desks belong to the company until the order is paid in full, at which point you receive a licence to use them for the project they were prepared for.
You may not resell a plan set or use it for a different site without our written agreement. Where a plan is used for the intended project by the client and the client contractor, no further licence fee is due.
Third party product names and marks remain the property of their owners. A reference to a product does not imply any endorsement of this website by that owner.
13. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information. It forms part of these terms. By using the website or placing work with us, you acknowledge that you have read the Privacy Policy.
Where you provide information about another person, such as the name of a site contact, you confirm that you have the authority to share it for the purpose of the order. We will use it only for that purpose.
A copy of the Privacy Policy can be read at the privacy page of this website or requested from the counter by email or telephone.
14. Limitation of liability
We take reasonable care in the work we do. However, we do not exclude liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence and liability for fraud.
Subject to that, our liability for a claim connected with an order is limited to the amount paid for the affected goods or service. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit, lost business or the cost of a delay caused by a third party.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer where consumer protection law applies. If a term is found to be unfair or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force.
15. Events outside our control
We are not liable for a failure or delay caused by an event outside our reasonable control. Such an event may include a severe storm, a typhoon signal, a flood, a power failure, a strike, a port closure, a transport disruption, a supplier failure or a change in law.
If such an event occurs, we will contact you promptly, explain the effect on the schedule and agree a revised date. If the event continues for more than sixty days, either side may cancel the affected part of the order without penalty, and any amount paid for that part will be refunded.
A delay caused by an event outside our control does not entitle you to a penalty unless a separate written agreement provides for one.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong. The courts of Hong Kong have exclusive jurisdiction over a dispute arising from these terms or from an order, unless a mandatory rule of your local law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
Before starting a formal claim, we ask that both sides attempt to resolve the matter by written discussion. Please send a clear summary of the issue and the outcome you are seeking to the counter, and allow a reasonable period for a reply.
If a dispute concerns a consumer contract and the consumer lives elsewhere, the consumer may also rely on the protection of the law of the consumer place of residence where that law cannot be set aside by agreement.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect a change in our services, a change in the law or a clarification of practice. The date at the top of the page shows the most recent revision. The terms that apply to a confirmed order are the terms in force on the date the order is confirmed.
If we make a material change, we will place a notice on the website for a reasonable period. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the revised terms for future use, but a change will not alter an order already confirmed unless both sides agree in writing.
A previous version of these terms can be requested from the counter if you need it for your records.
18. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to central@shikamtrade.autos or raised by telephone on +18587866364 during business hours, Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 18:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00 by appointment.
Written correspondence may be addressed to Light Media Limited, Rm 26 2/F, 118 Wai Yip St, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong - 999077, Hong Kong (HK). Please include the order number or quotation reference where one has been issued, so that the desk can locate the relevant record quickly.
The gallery counter is the best place to resolve a question about a batch, a plan or a dimming note. Most matters can be settled in a short conversation with the desk that prepared the work, and we prefer that route to a formal exchange.
